With great sympathy and belief that my modest painting can contribute to saving a life, the most precious treasure given to each of us, I would like to donate for the auction my painting Starość (Old Age) – oil on canvas dated 1955 – wrote the artist Stefan Berdak in his reply to the request the President of Kielce and Kielce Trade Fairs submitted to 200 polish artists. It was a request to support the charity for saving the life of the 17 year-old Dominika from Kielce.
Thirteen artists already joined the charity which will have its final in the form of an auction held in the REMPEX auction house. A reply to the appeal came from professor Wojciech Sadley whose works can be found in European and American museums, as well as in many private collections. His declaration was followed by others, amongst whom were Leszek Mądzik, Ryszard Gieryszewski, Franciszek Bunsch and Magdalena Abakamowicz.
The girls suffers from a rare and progressing disease called Hipertensio pulmunaris essentialis. A quick transplantation of the lungs and the heart is the only way to save Domonika’s life. In Poland there is a shortage of appropriate organs, so the chances are minimal. Time is against the teenager whose heart and lungs are severely damaged. Dominika was qualified for transplantation in a Vienna clinic, however, the condition for the surgery to be carried out is paying 100 thousand euro. This is the first Polish patient who will have both the lungs and the heart transplanted.
More and more organizations are joining the charity ran for a few month already by the local daily newspaper “Echo Dnia”. The President of Kielce Wojciech Lubawski, Targi Kielce, Kielce’s BWA, MOPR Kielce and Gazeta Wyborcza Kielce also supported the charity.
- This is yet another charity we get involved in as an organizer – says Andrzej Mochoń, the President of Kielce Trade Fairs – at the beginning of the year we organized a huge charity concert in Fabryka Trzciny in Warsaw, which was the finale of the charity for the alpinist Paweł Kulinicz who suffers from spinocerebellar ataxia. Thanks to this he underwent a successful surgery in a Chinese clinic of mother cell inoculation. Now we will do everything to help Dominika.
