Representatives of the Local Action Group of the Kozioł Region will be present at this year's Agrotravel&Active Life
The Kozioł Region is a surprisingly picturesque area based on the border of the Lubuskie and Wielkopolska province. Rich in forests, abounds with lakes and rivers, with the Obra river being the largest. The Obra river is the centre of the area. The Kozła Region consists of 6 communes located in five poviats: Babimost and Kargowa (Zielona Góra poviat), Zbąszynek (Świebodziński poviat), Trzciel (Międzyrzecki poviat), Siedlec (Wolsztyn poviat), Zbąszyń (Nowy Tomyśl poviat). Now there are 53 thousand inhabitants in this area.
What is the origin of the name - the Kozła [Goat] Region? The symbol of this area - the folk instrument called "goat” has been used in the Obra region since the 16th century. The instrument was a part of various festivities and events. This is where local bands offered appropriate music as the setting for events.
The thriving LGD of the Goat Region provides assistance in obtaining subsidies for beneficiaries from the area. A local development strategy has been developed for the various activities carried within the scope of the Rural Development Programme. This assistance has been designed to boost the region’s economic development as well as to improve its inhabitants’ quality of life. A lot of money is spent on preservation of cultural and natural heritage and for tourist development of the region. Particular attention is paid to residents activation. Thus the Local Action Group of the Kozioł Region provides the local citizens with assistance while organising local cultural, sporting, recreational and tourist events. Rural common rooms and playgrounds expansion and retrofitting are also among the LAG oobjectives.
The Kozioł Region boasts many singing groups, bands, country housewives circles - these cultivate traditional rituals, restore local attires and continue local culinary traditions. Thus local folklore is expressed through folk songs, feasts, Midsummer nights, as well as embroidery, sculpture, elements of folk costumes.
