What is the proper course of reaction?
Water - the element that is most difficult to predict and control; seemingly calm and safe, water may pose a serious threat. Every year it is the cause of numerous deaths. For no obvious reason, in recent years there has been a significant increase in the number of water-related deaths. According to statistics, more than 650 people drowned in 2014 in Poland.
There is no universal rule designed to prevent water-related disasters. However, it is worth investing in education and awareness building; irresponsible behaviour can lead to accidents and even death.
The third edition of the event targeted at Świętokrzyskie schools' pupils and youth is organized by Świętokrzyskie Association - Volunteer Water Rescue Service WOPR Kielce and Targi Kielce. Within the scope of the "Safe water sport" programme a consecutive meeting is held - children and young people can learn about water-related threats and the appropriate ways to react whenthey witness a hazardous situation. The event includes lectures delivered by lifeguards as well as first-aid drill.
The first edition of "Safe water sport" programme brought together over 500 pupils. The winter project unveiling, i.e. the "Ice-skating Safety" included over 1,000 students from 17 schools of the region; they gained comprehensive first aid knowledge.
The organizers want to include into the project a maximum number of young people from Świętokrzyskie. Thus young people are educated to become responsible for their own actions and for others.
To spring edition of the "Safe water sport" is to be held from 11 to 14 April 2016; schools have already registered more than 2,000 students.
