For a number of years Bishop Florczyk has cooperated with the Pontifical Council for Culture. As he observed, the nomination mght have been associated with the fact that the Council has undergone reorganization and expanded to include sports related issues
"I feel overjoyed and grateful having received the information on the nomination to become a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture. I am truly grateful for Cardinal Ravasi - remarks Bishop Florczyk. The Pontifical Council for works at the Holy See, its objective is to deal with the relations of the Church and the world of culture and science.
The council was formed on 20 May 1982 by the pope John Paul II. The Council special mission is to promote dialogue between the cultures of the modern world. Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi has been the President of the Council since 2007.
The International Exhibition of Church Construction, Church Fittings and Furnishings and Religious Art SACROEXPO is the only place where the annual Pontifical Council for Culture's Medal Per Artem Deum is bestowed.
Bishop Marian Florczyk was born on 25 October 1954 in Kielce, He was ordained a priest on 6 June 1981 by the Bishop Stanisław Szymecki. In 1987 he obtained a Licentiate at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome, and in 1990 he received his doctoral degree of social sciences.
On 21 February 1998 fr. Florczyk was appointed the auxiliary bishop of the Kielce diocese and titular bishop of Limata. He received the episcopal sacrament on 18 April 1998 in the church of St. Józef Robotnik in Kielce. Cardinal Franciszek Macharski and Kielce bishops: diocesan bishop Kazimierz Ryczan and the auxiliary bishop Mieczysław Jaworski anointed the new bishop.
Bishop Florczyk is the in the Polish Bishops' Conference KEP delegate for Pastoral Care of Athletes, he is also a member of the Social Affairs Council and the Youth Ministry Council. By the papal nomination of October 2018 he participated in the 15th General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on 'Youth, Faith and Vocational Recognition'. (MB)
