The WORK SAFETY seminar brought together OSH specialists

The second expo at the KIELCE WORK SAFETY-EXPO was marked with the seminar organised by the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Kielce. The session was dedicated to occupational diseases diagnostics and the smoking-related risks in the workplace. An occupational disease is a legal concept - it refers to an illness listed in the occupational disease register and diagnosed in relation to the working conditions assessment.   A medical opinion regarding an occupational diseases is specified in the Code of Administrative Procedures and the Labour Code. - The proceedings begin with the submission of an application which described a possible occupational disease. An employee, a former employee, a General Practitioner or the Sanitary Inspector of a particular facility or an employer submit such an application.  The administrative body task is to check the documentation as well as refer the person to the Provincial Centre for Occupational Medicine - explains Agnieszka Witkowska from the Department of Work Environment Supervision at the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Kielce. Ewa Ziemkiewicz - the head of the Department of Health Promotion and Health Education presented how nicotine addiction develops and which diseases a smoker may suffer from as the result.  The employer's possibilities to counteract this problem in the workplace were also outlined. The measures include information campaigns and training sessions.
